August 14 started out rainy and windy. Dose posters smacked in the breeze. Clouds loomed above our beloved River East Art Center. The Dosettes fretted at the sight of stormy skies: Would people brave the weather to get their Sunday Dose?
The answer is yes. They had incentive, you see:
Fresh-baked baguettes with velvety lardo, fresh-from-the-oven scones and sticky buns, raspberry rugelach that would make your grandmother swoon, local corn-and-bacon quiche, tomato-cheddar pastries and chichi iced coffee frappes from Mindy Segal.
Herbs, hops, brew kits and sample sips from Brewcamp, whose setup was truly stellar.
Complimentary sparkling concoctions of Chandon, Hum, orange juice and flowering mint.
Spicy fruit salads with organic greens from X-Marx, who brought the farm with them to the market.
To complement their sauces and rubs, Lillie’s Q passed out complimentary tender pulled pork sandwiches to hungry shoppers.
When the skies cleared, sun streamed through, casting light upon the lovely shoppers. What were they coveting?
Lisa Spagnolo’s new men’s flea collection (she claims the girls shopped it as much as the boys).
Hydrogen Plus’s sneak-peek vinyl selection (the shop will open soon in the South Loop).
Allie’s Minis itty bitty jewelry for tots and grown-ups alike (she promises the cookies are calorie-free).
Twentythirtyforty’s covetable collections (the Dosettes snagged pieces from Opening Ceremony and Loeffler Randall).
Tiny vases bursting with colorful buds, tea towels, and terrariums from Sprout Home (flowers make people happy).
All in all, a glorious day for Dosing. We hope you made it. See you September 25!
